Post about some fuckin rock n roll, not just metal, but punk, hard rock, and anything of the sort, what you're recently listening to, what's capturing your attention and the like.
Been listening to Deadly Blessing alot lately. Besides the awesome name, they do some pretty killer power/thrash.

Lately I've been listening to the soundtracks for Fritz The Cat and Heavy Traffic. Three tracks in particular really grabbed my attention; -Fritz The Cat by Ed Bogas -House Rock by Ed Bogas -Scarborough Street Fair performed by Merl Saunders
I have been working on a cover of 'House Rock', which I'll hopefully put out soon!

Liking this thread, looking forward to other cool stuff I can listen to.
Lately I've been obsessed with Celldweller (Klayton) and his other projects, he has an awesome sound and it's all so perfectly produced. He also blends electronic elements with heavy guitars and vocals so well.
Having said that, this is probably my favourite non-rock/metal song of all time:

I've been listening to some classic metal stuff, as composition study (and also out of curiosity as to how they inspired modern bands).
I found out that the Steve Harris (Iron Maiden's bassist) actually played the gallop triplets with his fingers, which reminds me, I should practice my fingerstyle more often lol
Then there's Helloween's "I Want Out", and I'm pretty sure I've heard the opening riff on some mid to late-2000 metal tracks.

Man I know the intro to The Trooper almost subconsciously now. I'm not a huge Iron Maiden fan but they're so hugely influencial that it's almost impossible to avoid them if you're a rock/metal guitarist.
I always find it entertaining to listen to classic rock/metal from a production standpoint, it's facinating to hear how my own journey reflects 30 years of development in the music industry from sounding kind of flat back then to the huge sounds we get now from bands such as Blind Guardian with songs like this:
Such a BIG sound compared to back then.
Notice the different use of compression and reverb especially.

yoshiii343, Maiden is love, Maiden is life. General rule of thumb with them is that everything from the debut to Seventh Son is unquestionable. I do believe there's a couple of over played songs, such as the one you posted, but tbh they're so good I can forgive them. You should listen to Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and Somewhere in Time, their most underrated albums from that time period. The synths in them are fantastic, and they're something I'd wish to apply in my own tunes. I think it'd give the songs an awesome cyberpunk flavor. Not a big fan of Helloween to be honest, I think they're way too major key for my liking, most of their songs sound like they're frolicking on sunflower fields with smiles and bullshit like that, that's not fucking metal. The EP and debut album are pretty good though, I can't recommend them enough if you absolutely HAVE to listen to Helloween. But if you're checking out german power metal, please listen to fuckin RUNNING WILD. Not a bad record from the debut to Black Hand Inn. Please do yourself a favor and listen to them. Here's a cool song from the debut and a live show from that time period, dig the awesome Priest-like chains and leather outfits! MetalRenard, man as much as BG's production has gotten technically better in the last 20 years, I can't really get into anything post Battalions of Fear. That debut is such perfect speed metal man and I feel no other band never really captured that sound, even now. The only guys who I think got close enough were Angel Dust back in their speed metal period like here This record is highly recommended btw, it's what I believe BG should've gone to after Battalions, kind of the same sound as Follow the Blind but the songs are catchier imo.

mercyfuldeath, I know what you mean, as you can say with many bands, "their old stuff was better!" However, as I got better at production, bad production began to get on my nerves. Let's take your example here, it's sooo mid heavy and the guitars clash with everything all over the place. I struggle to enjoy most parts of the song because of it. The vocals cut well though. Soilwork's Long Live The Misanthrope feels similar to that track but is much better produced. I enjoy it a lot more because everything has a place. Hey, thanks for introducing me to so much new music!

MetalRenard, I understand your point, and funny enough, I guess I went the opposite direction you did, since what I was really into when I was younger was mid to late 80's black/death thrash, alot of those albums had HORRIBLE sound production, but I learned to listen past it and take in the atmosphere, brutality and extremity of the music then. Take for example Sodom's Obsessed by Cruelty, I grew up with the Metal Blade version, which had the worse sound production out of it and the Steamhammer version, and that was my favorite Sodom album, more than Persecution and Agent, because of the atmosphere and brutality. Of course I've grown older and I can see how much the production sucked, but I've still a soft spot for it. Also man, mid heavy is a POSITIVE in my book hahaha. I fucking love mids man, that's where the good shit is.

Ah Carpenter Brut fucking rules man, I need to listen to more of their shit. As far as synthwave goes, the only artist that's really captured me is Perturbator, he did a collab with Carpenter Brut as well.

highballers, Carpenter Brut - the guy is from Poitiers, France. I have family from there! Haha I loved it, in fact the intro to my latest song is similar to the intro there but mine is more metal oriented, good to hear something with a similar feeling, I must be on to something! Definitely going to listen to more of his stuff, thanks for sharing! Catpocalypse, Oh my so very Iron Maiden sounding, goes back to what we were saying before how you can't escape Iron Maiden's influence, they're so big. Sounds great! I like the strange rhythms during the main riff. Apparently these guys joined Metal Church for a while too. Sticking to this theme, how about Pretty Maids: Running Out? You'll probably like this one, too, mercyfuldeath.

MetalRenard, Nice stuff. Sounds a little power metal like. I know another Danish band you might like actually. These guys are melodic but more progressive. I'd say this was one of their strongest albums:
