What tuning do you use for your instruments? Do you favour one over the others? Do you change regularly? For 6 strings I tend to favour drop C tuning - all down 2 semitones and the 6th string down 4. This was because I wanted lower sounds and standard tuning wasn't doing it for me. For my 7 string guitar I'll experiment with a few but I think I'll stick to Drop A tuning (same setup as before but the 7th is down 4 instead of the 6th). I feel drop tuning gives you more freedom but it limits the kinds of chords you can play so I'll gladly consider your ideas. One time I tuned my 6 string to DADAGC and it ended up inspiring this song: www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/678210Experimenting with tuning is fun!

I love hearing drop tuned instruments, but when you have any sort of a floating trem system (ie; Floyd Rose), re setting the intonation is a nightmare. So unless you have multiple instruments kicking around to set up in the multitude of tunings (which I don't), I'm gonna stick to standard. I have tried (by reinventing some chord structures) to mimic drop tune while in standard with this lil diddy. www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/897152

Yeah the intonation one is scaring me a little but I'll see what I can do. It definitely comes up when I consider which position I am playing in, luckily I prefer the more open sound of positions closer to the nut rather than the bridge so intonation remains mostly the same across tunings!
How the hell did you pull off that 7 string sound?!

I use D standard on my ibanez and standard tuning on my Godin, not a fan of drop tunings that much.
