This is a very late introduction. I should have done this a long time ago, but I guess I forgot, lol.
My intro to metal did not actually begin with the classic NWOBHM and thrash metal hits like many people. My first influence was actually Joe Satriani when I was 12 years old. After hearing his stuff for the first time, I would only listen to instrumental rock, and eventually I started getting into neoclassical shredders like Vinnie Moore and Michael Angelo Batio. It wasn't until 2017 that I finally started listening to metal with vocals. MAB's Hands Without Shadows 2 album got me into Metallica, and my dad later got me into 'Maiden. I was really loving NWOBHM and other classic heavy metal bands, but I never got tired of the relentless speed and technical mastery of neoclassical shred. Eventually, I found power metal, a nice little bridge between the two worlds. My first power metal band was Dragonforce (not because of Guitar Hero). After that and up until now I constantly come across rare and obscure NWOBHM, power metal, and neoclassical metal bands and artists.
During all that time, I was busy learning guitar. I absolutely sucked for two years until I finally got lessons when I was in 8th grade. After that, I started writing my own songs, and my practice routine would often revolve around me playing to my favorite tunes late at night until I was so tired that I'd almost pass out (which I still do, by the way). Eventually, I made one EP that I wasn't really happy with, so I stopped writing music for a year until I got better at guitar. Finally, in the spring of 2019, I wrote Song of the Spell, a song I made that I genuinely liked, and that's when I began working on my first solo album, Necromancy. It took me until the end of summer to finish it, and then I began Magic Conquest with my song Sky Battle, which actually did surprisingly well on NG.
If you haven't heard any of my stuff, basically I'm a shredder, but not your typical metalhead who likes to include a fast lick in a solo from time to time. My music is almost built around the technique. Though lately I've gotten better at songwriting and I've toned down all the flashy stuff in my songs a bit.
Basically, here's a little overview of my musical life:
Favorite subgenre of metal: Neoclassical
Favorite band right now: Virgin Steele
Favorite guitarist: Vinnie Moore
Favorite album: Mind's Eye - Vinnie Moore
Favorite vocalist: Rob Rock (Impellitteri, M.A.R.S.)
Favorite riff: the intro riff in Superheroes by Racer X
Favorite solo: Painkiller by Judas Priest
Favorite instrumental prelude: Road to Vega by Alpha Tiger
Favorite key to play in: B minor
Favorite Technique: Alternate picking
First guitar: Fender Squier Strat
First song I learned how to play well: For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica
